Student Delegation of École Polytechnique de Montréal Visits CAGS
A student delegation of 11 people, headed by Prof. Ji Shaocheng from École Polytechnique de Montréal, visited CAGS and its lab facilities and made exchanges with representatives of CAGS postgraduate students on Dec. 7, 2010.
Prof. Wang Xiaolie, Executive Vice-President of CAGS, held a short meeting with the student delegation and called for more and closer academic cooperation between CAGS and Polytechnique Montréal in the future.
During the visit at CAGS in the morning, the students had a tour of CAGS-based Beijing SHRIMP Center and the Key Laboratory of Continental Dynamics of the Ministry of Land and Resources of China to have an understanding of the operation of the Sensitive High Resolution Ion Microprobe (SHRIMP) and major scientific achievements of the Chinese Continental Scientific Drilling (CCSD) Project. The students also visited the Geological Museum of China in the afternoon.
After a day of free and light-hearted exchange, students of CAGS and Polytechnique Montréal helped each other have a better understanding of Chinese and Canadian culture and geology and established sincere friendship.
The student delegation of Polytechnique Montréal, consisting of 10 graduating students in geological engineering, will conduct a three-week mission in China to familiarize themselves with China’s geotechnics, environment, seismics, geophysics and related project management.
The Canadian student delegation’s visit to CAGS pushes ahead the initiation of joint field excursion programme for the students of CAGS and Polytechnique Montréal. The two sides have decided to draft an agreement concerning the proposed programme and will strive to make consensus on details of the programme in the nearest future.
